ESGDO

Overview

ESGDO is a VSME-only reporting tool. Unlike some newer entrants in this space, ESGDO is a verifiable, publicly registered legal entity with a live product, a public blog tracking VSME regulatory developments, and a downloadable sample report — a stronger transparency baseline than several vendors covered elsewhere on this site, even before third-party reviews enter the picture. Its defining feature is source transparency: every calculated energy and emissions figure is tied to a named national database with a publication year, rather than an unlabeled internal estimate. The platform is built on the EFRAG VSME standard and its taxonomy.

Who it’s for

ESGDO fits SMEs (up to 1,000 employees, in line with the VSME threshold) that need to answer sustainability requests from banks, large CSRD-scoped customers, or investors, and want one complete report they can reuse across all of them. It’s a particularly strong fit for companies operating across more than one country, given its automatic detection and per-country emission-factor calculation, a capability the vendor says it found in none of the eighteen competing products it reviewed. It also supports a multi-company account structure with unlimited companies and team members, which makes it a reasonable fit for accounting firms, ESG advisors, and holding companies managing VSME reporting across multiple clients or subsidiaries. It’s a weaker fit for a company that wants an ongoing subscription relationship rather than a pay-per-report model, or one that needs CSRD/ESRS-level reporting beyond VSME’s scope.

Key features

  • Named source calculation: Scope 1 and Scope 2 emission figures are calculated using six named national databases (KOBiZE for Poland, UBA for Germany, ADEME for France, DESNZ for the UK, AIB for European electricity grids, Ember for international electricity data), each tagged with its publication year.
  • Automatic multi-country detection: the platform reads a company’s listed sites and, where they span multiple countries, applies the correct national emission factor to each location separately before combining results.
  • An AI assistant that cites its sources per field, drawing only from a company’s own uploaded documents plus a general reference library, never mixing one client’s data into another’s answers, with four actions per field (Explain, Propose, Example, Verify).
  • Built-in cross-field validation, checking that figures like headcount, contract-type breakdowns, and water totals agree with each other, and flagging zero values as unanswered where the standard requires a real measurement.
  • PDF and XBRL export on the EFRAG VSME taxonomy, in any of eight supported languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Dutch), with each language version written independently rather than machine-translated.
  • Data retention of at least 18 months, so a company’s prior-year figures are already available when the VSME standard requires year-over-year comparison in a second report.

Pricing

ESGDO charges per report rather than by subscription. The first section can be completed for free; a full report for a company with up to 10 employees costs €690 (excluding VAT), with pricing increasing for larger companies. Payment is accepted in EUR, USD, or PLN via card or bank transfer, and AI credits are included in the report price.

Bottom line

ESGDO’s emphasis on named, dated data sources and per-country emissions handling maps closely onto the regulatory-precision standard this site holds vendors to, and its status as a verifiable registered company with public-facing documentation sets it apart from at least one other early-stage VSME tool covered here. As of writing, we found no independent reviews for ESGDO on G2 or Capterra, so — as with any vendor at this stage — that source-transparency story currently rests on the vendor’s own claims rather than third-party validation. For a multi-country SME or an advisory firm managing several clients’ VSME reports, it’s a genuinely differentiated option worth watching as review data accumulates.
