How we evaluate VSME software

ESG Software Index exists to help small and mid-sized businesses cut through vendor marketing and find a VSME reporting tool that actually fits their size, budget, and technical comfort level.

Every vendor featured on this site is evaluated against the same core criteria:

• VSME coverage — does the tool address the full set of mandatory disclosures under EFRAG’s VSME standard, or only a partial subset?
• Ease of use — can a non-specialist complete a report without hiring outside consulting support?
• Pricing transparency — is pricing published, or does it require a sales call? We note this explicitly on every vendor page.
• Export and audit readiness — does the tool produce a report in a usable, shareable format (PDF, Word, XBRL), and is the underlying methodology aligned with recognized frameworks like the GHG Protocol?
• Growth path — for companies that expect to scale into CSRD or ESRS-level reporting later, does the platform offer a natural upgrade path, or is VSME a dead end within the tool?

Where our information comes from

Our vendor profiles are built from public vendor documentation, product sites, and independent comparison sources, cross-checked wherever possible. Where a claim comes primarily from a vendor’s own marketing (particularly around pricing, which changes often), we say so directly rather than presenting it as independently verified fact.

On independence

ESG Software Index does not currently accept payment from vendors for placement or ranking position. If that changes in the future — for example, through affiliate partnerships — it will be disclosed clearly on this page and on any affected vendor listing.

A living resource

VSME is a new and evolving standard, and vendor pricing and features change frequently. We review and update listings regularly and welcome corrections directly from vendors or users — reach out at [contact link] if something here is out of date.
